A former pastor once shared a story that I have remembered for over half a century. He and a friend were night fishing near the back of one of the larger hydroelectric dams in Tennessee. They stayed out a bit longer than intended, and when they attempted to start the boat, they realized the battery was completely dead. They stayed the night in the boat, paralyzed without power. Oddly, they anchored their boat to the base of the source of immense electrical power to which they were unable to connect. Many Christians live without connecting their lives to the great source of power available to them through the Holy Spirit. We need the Spirit for the spiritual strength necessary to live a life pleasing to God.
